Performance
The 2019 Mazda CX-5 rides effortlessness and is in an almost, well, an elegant and prowess category. It is all on its own. Mazda has emerged as top in this SUV class in handling, acceleration, and overall performance with this Turbo Engine. What a thrilling and enjoyable ride as it delivers spirited driving with the SkyActive 2.5T Engine and 227 horsepower with All-Wheel Drive. Prepare to fly if you order a new turbocharged 2.5 liter, 250 horsepower four cylinder engine! The car is fast, handling, as you would expect, is superb, as it is with any Mazda.

But be prepared to pay for the privilege--it is available on two new models, Grand Touring Reserve and Signature. They are further up on the price scale.
Fuel Economy
22 city miles and 27 highway miles 24/30 for the turbocharged engine; 25/31 for the smaller one
The Car
Climbing #1 in the charts this year, is 2019 Mazda CX-5 Signature SUV. They simply have created value at an undeniable, unbeatable path. Their formula is: Style + Design + Performance + Safety + Dependability = Top of Class.

Mazda leadership has stayed the course and has made tremendous updates year in and year out in the US market. Adding technology and safety features (see sections below) and updating trim levels in our test models adds for a superior driving experience. The vehicle passes well on any type of road surface was our experience. With just over 600 dealers, Mazda has enjoyed a double digit growth in 2019. Thought they have a smaller market share, certainly this model has helped accelerate inroads.

True confession: Mazda remains one of my favorite brands. It has stayed authentic to its roots, while adding (deliberately) to the driving experience.
The Mazda CX-5 is undeniably the class act and the gold standard for the compact SUV/UV category, with impeccably gorgeous interior that places the car ahead of some entry level luxury products, styling that is understated yet muscular and robust, and performance, braking and handling far above competitors in its own class and ahead of some others that cost considerably more.

Changes include a new 2.2 liter diesel engine if you order the Signature model, a more powerful engine for the Signature and Grand Touring Reserve models, and Android and AppleCarPlay Auto smartphone integration. There are also newly available ventilated front seats and surround-view parking camera.

Technology
The Signature Edition has plenty of Tech to talk about: 360-View Monitor, Front and Rear Parking Sensors, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning System, Smart Brake Support, Advanced Smart City Bake Support, Blind Sport Monitoring, Rear Bumper Guard. Integrated Turn Signal Mirrors. Climate Control. Power Liftgate. Keyless Entry. Pushbutton Start.

Mazda Navigation system - Infotainment system fairly intuitive to use and master but does take some practice.
The CX-5 provides a wide choice of models for you to consider. At the entry level is the Sport, Touring and Grand Touring versions, but you will get the 2.5 liter four putting out 187 horsepower, which some car writers consider to be somewhat sluggish.

Then come the Grand Touring Reserve and Signature models, which cost considerably more, though you get quite a bit with them that are standard features.

Grand Touring Reserve and Signature trims come with that lusty version of the turbocharged same engine, with power ranging from 227 horsepower to 250 horsepower. And for the first time, if you want a diesel engine, you can get one, if you order a Signature model. It's a 2.2 liter turbocharged 168 horsepower engines.

There is a six speed automatic that Mazda attaches to all of its engines for the CX-5. Standard equipment for the Sport model includes: 17-inch wheels, LED headlights, push-button ignition, a 7-inch touchscreen, manually adjustable front seats, 40/20/40-split reclining rear seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Bluetooth, a four-speaker sound system and two USB ports. Low-speed forward collision warning and mitigation and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert are also included.

Adding the optional Sport i-Activsense package brings automatic headlights, automatic high beams, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, upgraded forward collision warning and mitigation with pedestrian detection, and automatic windshield wipers. The i-Activsense safety features come standard on the trim. You also get automatic wipers, keyless entry, a power-adjustable driver's seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear climate vents, simulated-leather upholstery, heated front seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, two additional speakers and two more USB ports.

The optional Touring Preferred package adds items such as a sunroof, a power liftgate, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and an upgraded 10-speaker Bose sound system.

All that I mentioned above in terms of standard features is included on the Grand Touring in addition to 19-inch wheels, adaptive headlights, LED foglights, heated side mirrors, leather upholstery, a power-adjustable passenger seat, driver-seat memory functions, an upgraded driver information display, a navigation system, and satellite radio.

The top-drawer Signature adds ambient cabin lighting, premium leather upholstery, wood trim accents, a surround-view camera, and front and rear parking sensors.
Aesthetics & Styling
Always engaging with intentional upgrades year in and year out, the 2019 Mazda CX-5 is a clear winner in the mall SUV category. With the number of safety and tech features along with design updates - your senses will be piqued. Sitting in the plush nappa leather seats, genuine layered wood trim mesh with satin chrome accents. The 40/20/40-split reclining rear seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, heated front and rear seats, and ventilated front seats, as well as the ambient lighting, extended power moonroof, all provide an elegant experience. Not captured by many competitors at all.
