Performance | |
The Mazda6 is quite the mid-sized, turbo sedan performer with 227 horsepower providing 310 lb.-ft torque. This front wheel drive sportster with 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine delivers responsiveness on the curves as well as pure acceleration and get up and go on any terrain or surface. | Invigorating to say the least. The 6 really moves when you hit the gas, and it has sure footed handling on the road. Curves are an extra treat! |
Fuel Economy | |
23 city miles/31 highway miles and 26 overall miles. | 26 overall, 23 city and 31 highway. The Mazda6 goes 100 miles on 3.8 gallons of gasoline, and you spend $250 more over five years for gasoline compared to other new cars. The annual fuel cost per year is about $1,400, based on 15,000 miles per year with gasoline costing $2.40 a gallon. |
The Car | |
Mazda, the brand that positions itself somewhere between mainstream and niche, continues to up its game with the Signature addition of the Mazda6. Clearly in the luxury category, this brand uses upscale design, materials, materials and features to appeal to a wider audience. All, while offering such a value price point that it in fact, grabs a wider audience. Mazda is onto perfecting their formula with the Mazda6 Signature. It's a must test drive for those considering mid-sized sedans and those looking in the lux segment also - a head turner.
The Ultrasuede look extends from the dash and onto the door panels. Then, nappa leather seats and trim on the sport seats is soft, and ultra-comfy. Ventilated and heated front seats, 8-way power driver seat with lumbar for back support; 6-way passenger power seat. 60/40 spilt fold down rear seat. |
This is the elegant, muscular, gracefully designed car in the mid-sized sedan segment. The Mazda6 has been around in its current form for some time, but it simply cannot be beat on most measurements that are important to knowledgeable, aware drivers and enthusiasts. I think part of Mazda's success is that this is a company with a strong identity and they know precisely who their customers are. They do what they do best: Providing cool styling with decent gas mileage and strong acceleration and doing all of this at a price that is easy to reach for most folks. |

Aesthetics & Styling | |
The 2018 Mazda6 is a very bold and well-designed vehicle. More than that, it stands out in a sea of sameness and morphing. The 2018 looks very similar to the prior year's faade, but now the body is riding of hot 19" alloy wheels. A gunmetal front grille with a distinctively upscale look, feel and finish. Zoom zoom. | The styling is still stunning and has held up well even as new competitors hit the market. That's because the design is very classic, with a nice, low to the ground profile, and an imposing, elegant presence on the road. The interior really rivals some entry level luxury cars---I call it elegant simplicity. The Mazda6 doesn't try to wow you by presenting a whole gang of buttons and controls to awe you; everything is in its place and a place for everything. And the wood trim did not have that awful fake look with highly polished "grain" that you get in so many cars. This stuff looks custom. It looks handcrafted. However, I did have issues with their infotainment/NAV system. The symbols and the elements are not intuitive and easily deciphered. And I found that input of info for the NAV system was more time consuming and complex than was the case for other cars I 've driven. |
